Detailed Event Info
Evening Ceilidh
Held in the BIG ROCK BEER Tent, our evening Ceilidh is a spirited celebration of music and dance, kitchen-party fashion. It features a variety of acts for your entertainment. There is a food concession and two bars.
Special Guest Headline Act - CELTICA
A fiery show of pipes and drums and the power of a rock band, CELTICA conquer the hearts of all audiences. The whole family will be up bouncing to their high-energy performance of jigs and reels, rebellious drinking songs and ancient love songs, with a few surprise classic rock tunes in the mix.
They come to us hot off a European tour of Highland Festivals, their members hailing from UK, Austria and the USA.
This will be their first appearance in Canada!!
Highland Games - Heavy Sports
A spectator sport if there ever was one, these events are a real thrill to watch at the Canmore Highland Games.
The Heavies consist of Putting the Stone (light), Putting the Stone (heavy), 56 lb. Weight Throw, 28 lb. Weight Throw, 22 lb. Hammer Throw, 16 lb. Hammer Throw, 56 lb. Over The Bar, Sheaf Toss and Caber Toss (pictured above).
REGISTRATION: Sports competitors may register on-site, beginning at 7:30am. Kilted attire is preferred. In lieu of a Contest entry fee competitors must pay their way through the gate to enter the competition for which cash prizes are offered.
COMPETITION TIMING: The sports contest begins at 8:30am, and runs all day to completion.
LOCATION: The sports area is located on the South side of Centennial Park adjacent at 5 St. and 6 Ave. One of our three entrance gates is at this point.
Highland Games - Highland Dancing Competition
Dancers of all ages love to compete one last time at the end of summer at the Canmore Highland Games.
The Highland Dance competition runs all day long, and you are able to see the competition as it unfolds. Dancers may also be seen in the Official Opening Ceremonies as they participate in the Massed Fling, to the immense enjoyment of those in attendance.
Competition Timing for Competitors:
MORNING - REGISTRATION OPENS AT 8:30AM, COMPETITION STARTS AT 9AM.
Primary, Beginner and Novice will run in the morning, with results to follow. (Intermediate begins at 10:30AM.) Please remain in dance attire for these awards, and report for Massed Fling Opening Ceremonies at 12:45PM.
AFTERNOON - AFTERNOON SESSION BEGINS AT APPROXIMATELY 1PM.
Premier and Restricted Premier will run in the afternoon, with results to follow.
INDOOR (LARGE TENT) DANCE VENUE
The dance area is located in the southeast corner of Centennial Park. There will be no relocation necessary in the event of bad weather as the competition will be completely under cover. There is limited space for the audience to sit under cover, so please be considerate of the space you take. No seating provided; please bring your lawn chairs.
Highland Games - Piping & Drumming Competition
The individual Piping and Drumming competition runs during the morning at various judging stations throughout the park.
2012 PIPING & DRUMMING COMPETITION ENTRY FORM
Early afternoon brings the Drum Major contes, followed by the Pipe Band Competitions.
The finale of the day is the Massed Bands of the Canmore Highland Games.
