CURB YOUR HUNGER FOOD TRUCKS

Food Trucks in Edmonton

Much can be said about the mobile dining trend sweeping North America by storm. Food trucks are now replacing red-and-white table cloths and chairs with a single napkin and the sidewalk curb. Food trucks have become the new must-try spot for quality food and customers on-the-go. The concept of food trucks can be traced back to the mid-1800s. The original food truck was thought up in Texas during a cattle drive. It is no surprise that Alberta’s food trucks are quickly growing in number. In the mid-1900s, the food truck was used to feed night-time workers, construction workers and even soldiers, which is a much more functional use for mobile kitchens. However, food trucks of today are much grander, words like “gourmet,” “unique” and “outlandish” can be used to describe them. They offer dishes with classic characteristics, with twists and surprises usually not expected from food coming off a truck. With the wave of social networking, these wheeled warriors of “street food” have mastered the food scene. The use of social media tools has increased their popularity and exclusivity. A Taste of Edmonton is proud to welcome food truck vendors to this year’s festival.

Stay tuned for an updated list of food truck vendors for 2013.
