Hamlet in 42 Seconds? It only happens at Nanaimo’s Shakespeare by the Sea during the Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) preformance.
Nanaimo is home to a gorgeous seaside walkway where you will find incredible views of the ocean and classic and contemporary takes on some Shakespeare plays. This summer, the Vancouver Island Shakespeare Arts (VISA) performers will bring King Lear and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) to the stage. Stop by the Pioneer Waterfront Plaza from Sept. 15 through 17 for two very different renditions.
Pull up a chair at any or all of the six performances during a selection of afternoon or evening performances.
Along with that quirky 42-second Hamlet performance, VISA will also blow you away with spoofs, sketches and wild scenes from more of your favourite Shakespeare plays. It will be silly! What would Shakespeare say?
On a more serious note, if you're looking for a tragedy, King Lear will take to the stage in a sweeping tale of intrigue, loyalty, revenge, forgiveness, and of course, civil war. Like many a Shakespeare tale, the lead goes a bit mad when he loses power. In the words of George Bernard Shaw, "No man will ever write a better tragedy than Lear." You just might want to bring tissues for this tear-jerker.
