Break into spring with a celebration of food and wine at St. Eugene

The third annual WineSpring Festival, happening Apr. 5 to 7, is exactly what we all need to get out of the humdrum of winter. No more boring wilted salads and soft veggies. This is going to be a burst of flavours to set you up to savour the spring and summer.

Friday evening starts with the Okanagan Five dinner event in the Joseph Creek Pavilion. Chef Aaron Day will focus on a menu highlighting indigenous fare and local suppliers. To knock down some of those calories, tap the toes to the Talbot Brothers as the wrap up the evening.

Saturday is a full day of events. Plan to learn some cooking secrets and how to cook with wine or maybe hear about some great travel ideas that include wine. Grab a paint brush and create a painting worthy of your dining room wall, while enjoying a local wine. There is another seminar with B.C.’s Cheese Poet. Yes, I said cheese poet. No clue what that is, but it’s definitely worth discovering. There has got to be cheese and more wine involved.

Oh wait, here’s something that doesn’t include wine. It’s a grains-to-glass tour. Head over to the Schutter Farms to learn how the father/son team turn their wheat into vodka.

Bring your favourite red clothes for the gala on Saturday evening. The “Red, Red Wine” Party will include unlimited tastings of wine and spirits, elegant appetisers and a full-on party band to rock you into the night. Stay over night at the resort to finish the weekend with a Sunday morning brunch with a tasty and chilly mimosa. If you have any legs left, head over to Kimberley Alpine resort, only minutes away, for some spring skiing to clear the head.

Over 40 partners are participating in this event and yes, most of them are wine related.

Friday Evening

The OK5 – a five-course plated dinner paired with wines from the region to create an explosion of flavours.

A concert by the Talbott Brothers caps off the evening.

Saturday

Day – Seminars, tastings and inspirational talks about wine and food will go on throughout the day. Attend a wine and cooking demo or splash some paint on a canvas while sipping a glass of wine. Maybe take a journey with the distiller to learn how wheat ended up in your vodka. Or, find out exactly what wine pairs with Canadian artisan cheese.

Evening – Bring your best red-threads for the “Red, Red Wine” Party. The evening will be endless tastings of yes, more wine, elegant appetisers and a full-on party band.
