There is nothing like a hearty laugh and the folks at the Nanaimo Fringe will provide a constant supply, along with a good dose of tears, moans, chuckles and cheers at the 6th annual Nanaimo Fringe from August 11-21, 2016. Share this page on Twitter.

Like most fringe festivals, the Nanamo Fringe brings acts the stage to showcase new scripts, obscure or edgy material. International and local theatre companies enter the selection lottery each year hoping for a call to the stage.

There will be 48 shows split between the Harbour City Theatre (25 Victoria Rd) and Vancouver Island Conference Centre (80 Commercial St). After the performances head to The Nanaimo Bar to mingle with fellow fringe fanatics.

Watch for events by performers from Nanaimo in ‘Busted,’ a mashup of drag performance and theatre.

Check out ‘Keats: A One Man Play’ by another local artist from Qualicum Beach who relives the tragic and inspiring moments of life of the poet John Keats in a 45-minute play.

Need a laugh? Check out the story about a wannabe actor who gets wrapped up and caught up in a mystery. What could possibly go right with a topic like that?

Artists from as far away as Australia make an appearance in ‘I Forgot to Fly today.” And, you just might learn something you didn’t know about historic Canadians in the humours telling of their contributions to Canada in ‘Legends of Canada’ by Chris Denholm of Calgary.
