Yeah, we all love winter but by the time February rolls in, we need a bit of a shake up. That was the whole reason behind the invention of “Family Day Weekend,” – to get families outside. Well, Cranbrook just upped the get "outside bit" with an evening event like never before.
Baker Street in downtown Cranbrook will be centre stage – or will the sky be the centre stage? Most of the action is flying through the air. There will be demonstrations by freestyle snowmobilers hitting massive jumps and floating through the air to land on a snow ramp seemingly way too far away. The highlight will be watching B.C.’s own Brett Turcotte, double gold medallist at the 2018 Winter X-Games as he performs astounding stunts and flips on his snowmobile. Snowboarders will also flip and spin, and do amazing tricks off jumps and rails. Did we say all of this happens while music pumps and fireworks blast?
With fireworks banned most summers, it’s a perfect time to light up the sky. According to Paul Heywood, Cranbrook event organizer, “An event like this has never been done before in any other city in B.C. Fireworks are attached to the ramps, igniting in sync with the riders going off the jumps.”
Along with the pyrotechnics, the jumping snowmobiles and flipping snowboarders, there will be a stage with three bands, food trucks and several downtown restaurants providing hot drinks and food for the crowds. The evening will culminate with a massive fireworks display along the sightline of the water tower at the end of Baker Street.
Yeah…Cranbrook will go Ka-BOOM!
