How to score World Cup fun in Vancouver without the cost
With massive watch parties, live music and celebrations spilling into the streets, the soccer World Cup in Vancouver is a once in a lifetime event for Western Canada that you don't want to miss.
But everyone knows the tickets to actual FIFA games are too expensive, right? Pro tip: tickets to the games themselves are only the tip of the FWC26 experience.
Our writers and field reporters Jim Barr and Darius Fuladi have been there, and have got your playbook for FIFA fun.
Here’s how to score World Cup thrills in Vancouver without the sticker shock.
Getting to downtown Vancouver
The path to the stadium and the fan zone starts at the Main Street-Science World Skytrain station.
Here’s one novel way to start your World Cup experience: cruise False Creek on an Aquabus, giving you views of the giant soccer ball on the skyline. What a way to start!
For transit, pedestrian, cyclist and other modes, you can find more info here.
Free watch parties
Head for the PNE grounds, party central for Vancouver’s FIFA Fan Festival from June 11-July 19. There, you’ll find the new Freedom Mobility Amphitheatre that features 24-foot screens where you can watch the games with a huge audience.
There is FREE general admission—yes you read that right—to each watch party. In total, there are 28 watch parties spread across the tournament. Here’s the watch party schedule.
There is also a second, FREE watch party at Granville Island. More info on that here.
Free live music
FIFA Fan Festival at the PNE features FREE live music from 120 different internationally renowned artists including The Arkells, Chromeo, FloRida, Kaytranada, Kx5, Metric, Motley Crue, The Funk Hunters, Broken Social Scene, Shred Kelly and more, all included with general admission access.
Free Fan Festival activities
Beer gardens, The Vineyards winery showcase, The Neighbourhood restaurant section, food trucks, football skee-ball, a RoboKeeper goal-kicking experience, football skills showcase, subsoccer, airbrush tattoos and a collective mural project fill out the activities in the FAN area.
Street parties and Nation Houses
Throughout the tournament, Vancouver has designated Granville Street as a pedestrian zone, closed to vehicles. It will attract big weekend celebrations with soccer fans from around the globe.
You can also “travel the world” by visiting venues hosted by different soccer playing nations, for example Australia House is at The Commodore Ballroom, while Brazil watch parties for fans will be at The Pearl.
Other venues include The Amazing Brentwood in Burnaby, Westbrook Village at UBC, the Shipyards in North Vancouver, and Surrey’s Civic Plaza, according to Vancouver CityNews.
Other soccer-related fun
