Like any season from ski season, golf season, baseball, football…any of them, any aficionado gets itchy feet as the season comes closer. So, it’s no surprize that festival lovers are anticipating the season. Who will be on the line-up at your favourite festival? Only the organizers and the singer’s agents know for sure.
Wine and cheese and food and wait…more wine! It’s the 3rd annual “WineSpring” event at the St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino near Cranbrook, and it looks like the best way to start the season with style. For this event, the resort has partnered with wineries, distillers and chefs to create a full weekend event to get you in the mode to celebrate the change of the season.
It’s March and that means the madness on the slopes begins. And at SilverStar Mountain Resort, the lineup of activities and events is, well… earth-shaking. This is the first tremor of the SilverStar SEISMIC Spring Mountain Festival 10-day event, but expect an annual repeat of the collaboration of sport, music, art, food and prizes in years to come. Trust me, this festival will bounce off the Richter scale!
Is a slightly off-the-beaten-path destination the best place to hold a film festival? “Absolutely,” says Gary Shilling, executive director and programming member for the Powell River Film Festival Society.
Cranbrook, B.C. is ramping up the wow factor on Family Day Weekend with the new CBK-X Winter Blitzville. Not only is it a great basecamp for the long weekend to cram in your favourite winter sports like skiing and boarding, but now the city is offering an evening of spectacular demonstrations of athleticism, horsepower, and fireworks. And when we say fireworks – we mean Ka-BOOM!
Take a few very talented freestyle smowmobilers, some X-Games medalists, add just enough wild snowboarders to amaze the crowds. Then add a few rock bands, some food trucks and a dump truck load of pyrotechnics to complete the event and you got yourself the CBK-X Winter Blitzville Festival. Ka-Boom! Family Day Weekend in Cranbrook just got a wake-up call!
“This area is about boats, entirely about boats,” said Mark Brezer of SloCat Tours after he picked my mother and I up from John Henry’s Resort & Marina. Mom and I had just spent the night in the adorably quaint Prawn Palace, a well-appointed cottage literally right on top of the water in Hospital Bay. We sat back in the bench seats, armed with the binoculars and harbour map provided by Mark and slipped past our waterfront cottage and its sister cabin next door, the Oyster Shack.
