PRISMA spreads the orchestral musical love around Powell River, showcasing the talents of young musicians at two different venues: The Evergreen Theatre and Willingdon Beach.

PRISMA draws over 5000 concertgoers from BC and beyond to daily musical events, symphony and chamber music concerts, master classes and student recitals. The PRISMA Festival Orchestra, the highlight of the festival, performs four full symphony concerts.

Event highights

PRISMA’s 2023 orchestra program will feature Mozart, Dvorak, Schulhoff, Kodaly Bernstein, Ravel and more. In addition there are hosted daily masterclasses for artists.

For those coming from beyond Powell River, a special feature for 2024 is the "Sail to the Symphony" experience, that combines a leisurely ferry ride from Comox to Powell River, transportation to the venue, a catered buffet and your concert experience. See full details here.  

Guest artists 

Each year, PRISMA welcomes some of the world's leading orchestras to perform. 

In 2023, the lineup included members of the Cleveland Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, LA Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, Montreal Symphony, Toronto Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, Victoria Symphony.

June 18, 7:30 pm  “Viennese Elegance and Bohemian Spirit” feat. the Garneau String Quartet performing Mozart, Schulhoff, Dvorak

June 19 – 7:30 pm  Cello “Young Virtuosos: Prelude to Glory” Concerto Competition Semi-Finals

Ten students are selected from all competition entrances to compete to play solo with the PRISMA Festival Orchestra during the June 27 and 28 concerts! 

June 20 – 7:30 pm  Grande Opening Concert: “Ice, Silk and Turkish Delight” co-presentation with qathet Film Festival
