Cowboys and cowgirls have been known to say this is the best little stampede around. They should know. The semi-pro Stettler Steal Wheel Stampede continually gets nominated as the best rodeo to attend. Why? It’s an adrenalin packed two-day competition of fast-paced stock and rodeo performances, barrel, steer and wild pony racing, to name just a few reasons you need to go. But it’s also more than a rodeo. Check out the art show, a classic car show and shine, a vendor market and a ton of things to keep the kids busy. And be sure to stop by the 59th Street Saloon for a cold one and live music.
There’s also free camping close to all the action so you can make a whole weekend out of it.
Take the whole family to the Wasa Lake Triathlon

Always wanted to try a triathlon? The everyone-friendly Wasa Lake sporting weekend is the place to do it. If you’re a true triathlete, you’ll be signing up for the standard. But if you’re a newcomer, there’s the sprint (a short version of the standard) or the relays where you can compete with your friends. The kids can get in on the fun too at the TriKids Triathlon.
All your hard swimming, running and biking will be rewarded with a barbecue lunch.

Sail away at the PRISMA musical extravaganza

Picture yourself listening to the sounds of classical music surrounded by beautiful ocean views on the Pacific coast. The PRISMA Festival makes this happen with its unique celebration of young orchestral musical talent in a series of concerts and competitions over 10 days in beautiful Powell River. A couple of the highlights are an evening concert on board a BC Ferry (how cool is that!) and an oceanside concert on the beach.
