10 epic moments from summer 2023 festivals… so far

Euphoria often hits without warning. In the thrumming rhythm, carefree dance and pyrotechnical wonder of a music festival. In the transcendent calm of contemplating a wondrous piece of art. Or the tingle on your tongue as you savour an exotic new flavour, laughing and dining among friends.

Have you felt it? It’s a rare and fleeting sensation, most often, but sometimes without even consciously pursuing it, we find it.

It’s like a new fire is lit within, a fire that can fuel us through the sometimes distressing events out in the real world, as the very real fires burn around us. The big trick, of course, is in harnessing it.

That euphoric moment lights up any crowd.

A collective euphoria

The return of the festival scene after a pandemic hiatus has certainly spurred a collective euphoria of sorts in Alberta and BC, building through 2022 and reaching even new heights in 2023.

You might even wonder, as some cultural commentators have, if we are living through our own Roaring 20s here in Western Canada. Which begs the question: if this euphoric return is a once-in-a-generation moment, then what do we do with it? How do we harness it, share it, build on it?

A moment of connection at Five Acre Shaker.

As we near the final few weeks of the official summer festival season, one way the FestivalSeekers team has tried to answer that, is by celebrating some of the best moments in story and images. Stoking the fire, so to speak.

So follow along, as we look back at some of the epic moments of the festival season in Western Canada so far. But don’t just follow along; we want you to share yours too! Read on for details on how you can enter our photo contest, open now through Sept 10.
